Crosstown rivals Hilo and Waiakea posted easy victories Friday night to advance to the championship game of the St. Joseph’s basketball tournament.
Jalen Carvalho scored 23 points in about a half’s worth or work to lead the Vikings to a 59-23 victory against Ka’u in the semifinals at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo. In an earlier game, Kahinu Alapai tallied 17 points as the Warriors beat Honokaa 73-43 to set up today’s 7:30 p.m. championship game
Austin Dante chipped in with 10 points for for Hilo and Jordan Caoagdan had nine. Larry-Dan Al-Navarro and Franklin Orcino contributed five points each for the Trojans, who play the Dragons in the 6 p.m. third-place game today.

Waiakea 73, Honokaa 43: Lucas St. George (14 points) and Calvin Mattos (11) also reached double figures for the Warriors.

St. Joseph 56, Kealakehe 40: Ben Uhlmann scored 17 points and Ka’ena Naho’opi’i had 11 to lead the host Cardinals, who will face Pahoa at 4:30 p.m. today for fifth place.
